Hello, Everyone -
I recently made my very first Finetrax point. Generally, I was very pleased. Everything seemed to go together well and despite making a couple of mistakes the entire process was both enjoyable and rewarding.
My only real doubt concerns the pre-drilled holes - especially those immediately adjacent to the cast crossing. It is vitally important that the chairs are positioned with absolute accuracy - otherwise the rails abutting the crossing will not line up correctly. However, on one side of the crossing (where the tracks diverge), there are not two holes but one. It is, in effect, a "double hole" where two chairs are positioned close together.
I found this part of the build extremely fiddly. Not only was it necessary to first trim down both chairs - until they were almost non-existent - but then I had to position them "by eye". I was forced to repeat the process a number of times and even now the rail which abuts the crossing is still a tiny bit off.
It would have saved me a lot of time had there been:
1) separate holes for each chair.
2) a special "double chair" provided.
I appreciate it is important to keep the production costs down but a few more speciality chairs may be a good idea. If not that, perhaps the chairs could be cast as part of the crossing?
Just thoughts...
:0)
