Exactly, the tooling for the plain line is now complete so the thickness can't be changed, now. I had discussed this on the N Gauge forum at the time before tooling, the majority of votes were for 1mm thickness.
I have just learnt that the caster is on Holiday, so the blades won't be cast until next week, sorry.

The spacing of the sleepers in the point base is narrower than the plain track, and the sleepers are wider. I can understand the extra width as you have to drill them for the chairs, but why the different spacing?
I started putting chairs in the stock rail possition last night and quickly found that where the stock and switch rails converge there is not enough room to place two chairs side by side without trimming the chairs. Is that what we're supposed to do?
Also, the holes for the chairs directly either side of the frog are elongated/oval. Why?
I've been tacking sequential photos of everything I'm doing and the techniques I'm using for assembly. Is it ok to post them?

Hi Karyn,
All good questions. On the real railway, plain line track uses sleepers, which have a width of 10". Turnouts use timbering which have a wider width and are spaced closer together. The milled fiNetrax turnout bases accurately match this to scale.
Yep, trimming chairs will be apart of the build and detailed in the diagram. I think its 2 chairs that need trimming in each rail convergence.
I am glad that you spotted the elongated holes, there is a purpose to this. You will notice that the holes are elongated either side of the frog, the reason for this is if I were just to have a normal hole, i do not believe the tolerances of both the drilling of the holes, and the manufacture and casting of the frog would result in the rails lining up perfectly. So the elongated holes allow the end chairs to have some slight wiggle room to ensure that the rails perfectly line up for smooth running.
Please post photos, very interesting and educational to all.
I am working on the diagram now, should be up tonight!

Evening All!
I appear to be a bit behind but my kit arrived yesterday.
I hope to make a start before going on holiday next week, I probably won't have time to complete it before I go though so there will be a bit of a delay.
I intend to take photos at all stages (as long as I don't get too ahead of myself), Wayne do you have an email address I can send the image files to in case you want to use them, you can PM me if you like?
Cheers,
Mark
